If you currently have braces or are getting them soon, it is important that you are aware of the proper ways to clean and care for your braces in order to keep your teeth healthy and clean throughout your treatment experience. At the office of Dr. Rekha Gehani, our Corona Queens orthodontist and the rest of our staff are here to give you the information you need to make your braces treatment the most successful, and keep your teeth as healthy as possible along the way. While taking good care of your teeth and keeping them clean is always important, your oral hygiene habits at home are even more important when you have braces. Having braces makes it slightly more difficult to brush and floss efficiently, which can increase your risk of developing cavities or periodontal disease if you are not up to the cleaning challenge. Fortunately, if you are aware of the proper cleaning and maintenance techniques, you should fall into an easy cleaning routine in no time at all. When you are brushing your teeth, use a soft bristled tooth brush, and brush all of the exposed areas of your teeth in both directions. Then, switch to a smaller toothbrush designed for cleaning braces to get all of the areas in between. It is also important to keep flossing throughout your orthodontic treatment. Our Corona Queens orthodontist can show you how to keep your teeth and braces clean here at our office.

Another important aspect of braces maintenance and oral health throughout orthodontic treatments is the foods you choose to eat while you are wearing braces. Dr. Gehani has found that there are certain foods and types of foods that should simply be avoided while you are wearing braces in order to avoid breaking your braces or causing other serious complications. You should not eat hard foods or foods that are difficult to bite, like apples. You should also avoid especially chewy or sticky foods like gummy candies or caramel candies. Popcorn has also proven to not work well with braces. If you ever have any questions about eating or cleaning with your braces, you can always ask the friendly staff here at our Corona Queens orthodontist office. If you ever damage or break your braces, be sure to schedule an appointment with Dr. Gehani right away so that we can keep your treatment plan on track.
